I grew up in the mountains of north Georgia- the trees and mountains and creeks and lakes just never seem to leave the soul, no matter how long I’ve lived away. When we go back, I drink in the mountain views.
We currently live in a house with one tree in the yard. I fell in love with the house, but hate the big grassy expanse. Give me treeeees! My favorite thing about our neighborhood is the nature trail. I can almost believe I’m back in the mountains.
This spot near the entrance to the trail always reminds me of Narnia for some reason. Just add a lamp post.
We’ve had a lot of rain, so the mushrooms [toadstools?] are plentiful.
Trees! I love trees. Have I told you that already?
And creeks. If you’ve visited my About Me page, you know that my dream is to live in the mountains near a creek.
It’s hard to believe this is in our neighborhood. There are a few good access points to walk down to the creek and dip in your toes. It was a hot and muggy day when I took these pictures, so that was exactly what I did.
Do you know what these are? We always called them doodlebug holes. Actually the critters inside are ant lion larvae. They trap ants and other small insects in their hole. I need to relocate some to our house.
When my sister and I were kids, my mom told us you can talk them out of their hole by saying [in a hypnotic voice], “Doodle bug, doodle bug, come out of your house. Your house is on fire.” It never worked for us- we always got impatient and dug them out so we could watch them doodle. (They navigate backwards in squiggly patterns.) Do you think Mom was just trying to keep us occupied? Nah!
More pretty vegetation along the trail. Are these brown-eyed susans? Black-eyed susans? Is there a difference?
The air seemed ten degrees cooler under the canopy of trees, but it was miserably hot and sticky on the walk back home.
This pretty guy was resting on a neighbor’s bush.
We didn’t even go into the house, just hopped in the truck and headed out for some cheesecake flavored frozen yogurt with strawberries, almonds, and hot fudge. A yummy end to a walk along a woodland trail.
What’s your favorite frozen yogurt? Are you a mountain person or a beach person?
