It’s odd how I can’t resist these MCM pieces. Odd because they are so far removed from the French Country style I love for my own home. I jumped right into this MidCentury Modern nightstand makeover without taking any before pictures. Oops!
The top was quite dinged up and impossible to repair without replacing the veneer. Instead, I sanded it down, repaired the drawers, and painted.
I applied a black glaze to give the color more depth.
It still needed something else, a little more detail. When I was growing up, turquoise and silver jewelry was very popular in our area, so I love that combo. Silver would be the perfect accent for this piece. The drawer pulls were the obvious place for a silver accent.
A less obvious but perfect place for an accent color is the legs. A stripe of silver along the bottom highlights the iconic MCM legs.
TIP: When applying a metallic silver paint, first basecoat with a light gray. You’ll get a more solid coverage with fewer coats.
I’ll be selling this at a local pop-up market in November. I donated most of the decor from my booth when we moved, so I’m basically starting from scratch. Trying not to panic and feel overwhelmed.
I also started a new facebook page just for the items I’m creating, refurbishing, and selling. To get a first look and first dibs at what I’m working on, please come over and like Plum Doodles Market. (I still have my original page, Plum Doodles for random stuff I post about here, as well as anything I think is funny or inspirational.)

Hmm, I guess I should name this MidCentury Modern nightstand as well. I think Henry will work- what do you think?
