I made an early start last Friday in the hopes of finding some great deals at yard sales. I should have stayed in bed. Maybe the threat of rain discouraged some people from holding sales. Don’t they know that we die-hards don’t care about a little rain? Anyway, I found only four yard sales, two fake yard sales (signs, but no sale- I hate those!!!). What glorious treasures did I snag? A basket. One little basket. It was a little too new- looking, so I’ll show you how to weather a basket.
I simply brushed Varathane Sunbleached wood stain over the basket. I found the wood stain at Habitat ReStore for $1. You can see the original orangey color next to the sections where I added the stain.
I added another layer of stain along the edges of the slats for more definition, then sprayed a light coat of clear matte finish varnish over the outside.
I didn’t make any changes to the inside of the basket.
The peaches? I had already gobbled up my stash of frozen peaches from last year, and the store bought just don’t compare. So, I spent part of the weekend freezing nearly 30 pounds of peaches! Think that’ll be enough until next year?
I told you last year that I mainly use them for breakfast smoothies, but I also like to pull a bag of peaches out of the freezer and eat them like juicy little peach-sicles. Yum! I experimented with a peach cheesecake pie today- yummy, but I think it needs a little tweaking before I share it with you.
I like my peaches colorful and my baskets weathered. How do you like your peaches and baskets? Any favorite recipes?
