You know how much I hate ironing. One thing that drives me crazy slightly irritates me is the way my ironing board wanders across the room while I’m ironing. Does that ever happen to you? You’re ironing away, singing a happy tune (yeah, right), and suddenly realize you’re standing in the corner, like that time in 3rd grade when Mrs. Grubenstein caught you drawing butterflies instead of clock faces with some specified time on them. What? Oh. Yeah, anyway, I figured out how to keep ironing boards from wandering.
I cut scraps of shelf liner into strips just wide enough to fit the plastic caps on the ends of the ironing board feet. This is the non-adhesive liner that is a little spongy and grippy. I think I got it at Walmart.
Add hot glue to the back side of the strip and wrap around the ironing board foot. You only need a piece of liner long enough to cover the area of foot that actually rests on the floor.
I ended up wrapping the strip completely around the caps just because I didn’t like the edges showing.
Now if I could just remember to dust before I take pictures…. In my defense, I’ve been sewing curtains (again) for our bedroom, and the serger generates a ton of dust. But that’s another story for another time.
I’m so glad I took five minutes to figure out how to keep ironing boards from wandering across the room. This was such a quick and easy fix for something that has bugged me for years. No, it won’t make me like ironing any better, but it’s one less irritant. Do you have a well-behaved ironing board, or does yours like to wander, too?
