We haven’t even moved into the house yet, but I couldn’t wait to work on my first project. If you don’t count all the hours picking out fixtures, doors, brick, siding….
Our laundry room doesn’t have a window, so I thought I’d bring a little woodsy-ness inside. Cutting Edge Stencils offered me the opportunity to review another of their stencils, and the Birds on a Branch Wall Stencil seemed perfect for this project.
Probably the hardest part of the project was deciding what colors to use. To help with the decision, I made a color board. I painted a scrap of cardboard my wall color, then used the bonus stencil to try out different colors against the wall color. (CES always sends a little surprise stencil with each order.)
I finally decided to use soft black for the branch, which looks like a dark, dark brown on my wall. I taped off the birds so that I wouldn’t get roller happy and paint right over them.
Here’s where the customization came in. I really wanted the tree branch to extend farther, so I taped off a couple of sections of stencil and added them to the end.
Now for the birds. I decided to mix a dab of silver paint into the blue for some shimmer. I didn’t worry about having enough paint mixed up to do all three birds. I wanted the birds to coordinate, but not perfectly match. Another customization: After cleaning the stencil, I flipped it over and added the third bird flying in from the other direction.
A touch of whimsy, just what a laundry room needs. A washer and dryer would be nice, too.
We should be able to start moving into our home next week- I can hardly believe it! Sooo, while I’m slaving away with moving furniture and unpacking boxes, what FUN projects will you be working on?
