As promised on my trellis headboard post, I’m giving you the first guest bedroom tour. Both guest bedrooms and the office are upstairs, along with the guest bath. This bedroom is at the end of the hallway. Consider this tour the “before” because I haven’t done much to the space since we moved into this house almost 3 years ago.
The most recent update I’ve made is the headboard fashioned from garden trellises. The bed looks rather bare- I need to make a pillow or three. Maybe a throw at the end of the bed? You can see the Jack and Jill bathroom on the left.
This dresser is a coordinating piece with the original headboard. I have a large painted sideboard in the dining room that I would like to move up here for more storage and a lighter look. Actually, it was a dresser that we bought to use for a sideboard. Now after many years, it may get to realize its intended purpose! 🙂 We replaced all of the carpet upstairs soon after we moved in.
An old family picture- my dad made the frame years ago from match sticks. Pretty cool, huh? I’m on the left, mom and dad in the middle, and my sister Lynn is on the right.
A painting my daughter did of one of my favorites, hydrangeas.
Chippy old planter I found at an auction house. It was in the throwaway pile, so didn’t cost me anything! My air plant is looking quite sad- the movers packed him away and he didn’t see the light of day for a year. I haven’t been able to find a replacement yet. Know where I can find any?
The sunlight through these windows has faded the quilt tremendously. I moved the painting of my daughter from the spot over the bed.
And that’s it. There are several things I would like to freshen up, but not high on the priority list. Any suggestions for adding a little ooh-la-la in this room?
Doodles,
Headboard is wonderful. It looks like a wonderful place to visit.
I am def….. going to use your trellis idea in my own master bedroom redo…..I went to Lowes today and looked to see what they had..they actually had some that were pretty…I would need to paint them though and antique them….
Love this room! LOVE LOVE LOVE that ‘dresser’!! Great vinyet [yea I know, wrong spelling, too lazy to look it up!], love the carpet….not crazy about the curtains. I would [not to be pushy!] add some color and I love paisley or stripes on them or a lighter shade of blue/gray stripe on the walls. I too like the idea of a cushy sitting chair and a goodie/gift basket, more photos…vintagey to go with the dresser style you have in there! I do not have extra bedrooms in this house. Hubby bought an old 1842 one room school house [transformed in the 1940’s] so one bedroom, one bath, one kitchen and livng room! A medium apartment if you will the garage is bigger than the house! LOL Whatever you decide I know it will be awesome as I have seen a few other photos of your house!!!
Wow, Pam, sounds like a really cool home! I agree with you about the curtains- I’ve thought about stenciling something on them, or adding some sort of detail- like so many other projects, just haven’t gotten there yet! 🙂
I think your guest room looks very inviting and comfortable. If you really think it needs something a slipper chair or stool would be a useful and cute addition. I couldn’t tell if you have a bedside table or stand but that could also be handy for a guest and would add more surface are to “merchandise”. One of the things that nearly all of my guest have used is a small pitcher or carafe and drinking glass. (I sneak in the room at some point in the evening and make sure the pitcher has fresh, ice cold water in it. Another thing that I have added to my own guest room is a basket of goodies. I pick up travel size bottles of all kinds of toiletries for the basket; place some cotton balls and Q-tips in a beribboned Ball jar; some beauty tools like emery boards, nail clippers, and tweezers, and place clean, fresh towels and washclothes in the basket as well. I leave a little note on the pillow explaining to my guests that there is fresh water in pitcher and that the things in the basket are for them to use and take as they need. Nearly all of my guests have expressed how much they appreciated these little things. I have a son in college who occasionally brings friends home with him. Whether these visitors are male or female they all appreciate the basket but I admit it is designed to make a potential daughter-in-law feel welcome! 🙂
Wow, Laurie Jo, those are great ideas. I think you’re right about putting a chair or stool in there. Your guests must feel really special! I do keep a few toiletries in the guest bath, but hadn’t thought about a pitcher of water. Sounds like you should start a bed & breakfast! 🙂
Good GRavy I am so tired I typed my comment in the name box! dodo here! So as I was saying, this is the pot telling the potter what to do? NOt! As you said, some bigger better pillows and a throw, to start with! I just got two more fantastic pillows at Pier One. Havent seen anything like them! and their throws are gorgeous too! But the peacock tealy blues are selling fast, I was lucky today! While I like the dresser you have there, I think one of your creations would be smashing, you do such good work! Am curious to see what you do. But as you said, pillows and a throw is the start, right? Hurry up!
You’re right, Bernice- I would love to replace the dresser! I can’t get rid of this one, though, since it was hubby’s grandmother’s. So, if I replace it, it will have to find a home in the basement. I so hate storing a bunch of stuff I won’t be using! I changed the quilt, but still haven’t added any pillows. Thanks for dropping in and giving me a push to do something about it!
I was expecting the wooden criss-cross trellis, what a fun surprise this little gem is! Such a pretty and unique piece! Love the hydrangeas, too!
Shelia, I love your trellis headboard! It’s so clever! Your room looks so inviting! I think it’s lovely! The picture frame is such a special piece too! I wouldn’t change a thing!
