Well, I finally added a little front door décor to our home. I wanted something other than a wreath but wasn’t sure exactly what. Hobby Lobby is always dangerous a great place for inspiration.
This metal thingy was black, which wasn’t going to show up on our black door. But who could resist 40% off? I love the swirly design and the elongated shape.
I spray painted it with Heirloom White, hot glued on a hand full of excelsior and wired on the partial hydrangea stem that I had left over from my monogram project. I tried hot gluing the flower, but it was just too heavy to stay in place.
I added a little more excelsior to form a nest above the hydrangea and glued a bird onto the nest.
I hung the wreath (I don’t know what else to call it, so we’ll go with “wreath”) from a piece of grosgrain ribbon stapled to the top of the door. (I got the idea to attach it to the top of the door from Sarah’s spring wreath project.)
- Hang your door decor so that the peep hole isn’t covered.
- Use an adhesive felt pad on the back in any spots that may scratch the door.
- Use a bit of Simply Tacky in a couple of spots to keep the wreath from banging around when the door is opened. (It’s the stuff that you use to hang posters on the wall.)
I’m pleased with how the “wreath” turned out- I think it shows up nicely on the black door. However, I need to paint that flower pot. I’d also like to add a flowering plant that would drape down the sides of the pot. Any suggestions?
