I have a confession to make, but I suppose you already guessed it by the title. I’m not a fan of orange. I generally prefer cool colors over warm colors. So, what to do about fall decorating without using orange?
After all, what comes to mind when you mention fall? Orange pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns. Bright red, crisp yellow, and rusty orange leaves. Don’t get me wrong- I love the fall colors in nature, just not in my home décor.
Ironically, fall is my favorite time of year- cool breezes with just a little bite. Perfect hiking weather. Snuggly sweaters and blankets. Fires in the fireplace. So, how do you embrace the coziness of fall and keep your décor in your favorite cooler colors?
This year, I started early with our front porch. First, I refurbished the metal scroll that is hanging on the door. Remember the hydrangea and bird’s nest arrangement? (By the way, real birds kept stealing bits of my nest.)
And this is how it looks now with a fall overhaul. Ha, that rhymes, y’all…
This was a really simple makeover- no need to even take the scroll off the door. The old arrangement came off easily since it was mostly just hot glued on there.
I attached one fall bush and three rattan balls with twist ties.
I tucked purple mums into the front to add some non-orange color and to hide the twist ties and stems. A tiny bit of hot glue keeps the balls from shifting.
On the bistro table, I arranged two creamy ceramic gourds and a glass jar with purple and white mums.
A magnetic fall welcome sign adds a homey touch with magnets made from drop cloth fabric and a little paint. And magnets.
For the fern on the right side of the door, I added a few curly willow sticks and fall leaves.
I brushed purple and brown paint over the leaves to tie them in with the rest of my non-orange fall theme. I also tucked in a few sprays of dark purple flowers.
Using the darker shades of plum transformed our front porch from summer to fall without sacrificing my love for all things purple. Anyone else planning on doing some fall decorating without using orange?
