If you follow Plum Doodles on Facebook, you know that I often share Kindle book deals. I love to read and I also love decorating with books and book pages. A few of my blogging friends agreed to let me share how they use books in home décor as well.
Decorating with Books in Vignettes
Decorate with books to add varying heights to vignettes. Erin Spain shares a beautiful vignette incorporating this trick.
The bunny wasn’t quite tall enough so I added a book in this cloche when updating the sideboard.
Angie from Postcards from the Ridge does a beautiful job incorporating books in her fall fireplace décor.
My daughter decorated with books for her wedding. The books housed faux succulents and included the bride and groom names inside the cover, along with the wedding date. I brought one home for a keepsake and use it in my decor.
Using Books in Craft Projects
Another way to incorporate books in home décor is to use them in craft projects.
Rachel from Holy Craft made an adorable bird book. I think this is my favorite craft project using books!
I like to cover candles with book pages, especially pages from old hymnals.
Book pages are an inexpensive way to mask damaged items, such as this decoupage music page tray.
Decorating the Books Themselves
When vintage books need a little extra zing, Meegan from Meegan Makes paints and embellishes them.
Meegan also sometimes paints the book covers and adds decorative paper to the spines with decoupage.
Decorating with Book Pages to Make Wreaths
Using book pages to create wreaths adds texture and warmth. They can be embellished with ribbon or flowers, or left as is.
Rachel doesn’t waste a thing- when she cut the nesting spot in the bird book above, she saved the paper circles to create this book page wreath.
Using colorful book pages completely changes the look and feel. The Hamby Home used children’s books to make a fun paper cone wreath, perfect for a nursery.
Using old books in home décor reminds us of a much more tactile reading experience- turning pages and yes, bending a page to mark a spot. Or underlining points to come back to later. All that can now be done electronically, but it just isn’t quite the same.
Tell me below, how do you decorate with books and book pages? Do you read with book apps or do you still turn a page the old fashioned way?
