Cheap & Easy Bathroom Storage Solution

Cheap & Easy Bathroom Storage Solution

Is everyone addicted to Pinterest yet? I came across this clever storage solution for your curling iron from The Family Handyman.

The project uses pvc pipe, plus hook & loop tape (Velcro) to attach it to the cabinet door. We had a short piece of pipe left over from our bathroom remodel, but the diameter was too small. I checked at Home Depot, but the pipe was too expensive for my cheap self.

Instead, I found a set of 4 plastic cups at a thrift store for $1. I  also bought a small package of Velcro with adhesive backing from Hancock Fabrics.

For each cup, cut 2 pieces of hook & 2 pieces of the loop. Remove the paper backing from one piece, doesn’t matter which, and press it onto the cup near the top. Also, add a piece near the bottom. Attach the matching piece to each of these. Don’t remove the remaining backing yet.

Figure out where you want to place the cups on your door. Make sure they won’t be bumping against anything inside the cabinet.  Now remove the remaining paper backing and press the cup against the door. The directions on the Velcro package say to leave it in place for 24 hours before putting any weight on it.

I use the cups for my hair products- it gets them off the shelf and within easy reach when I’m doing my hair. A confession: the cups startled me the first few times I opened the cabinet door- they will rock a little when you open the door.

I may add the other 2 cups for my straight iron (one for the cord), but that would mean letting it cool before putting it away. Kind of a hassle.  I have a couple of ideas on that, though.
