JOY in the Midst of Change

It is easy to lose joy in the midst of worry and fear. Worry about the timing of our move to South Carolina. Fear that our house won’t sell as quickly as I would like. Worry about how the move will affect my little business.

Notice anything about those statements? Yep, it’s all about me. How changes will affect my comfort and my control.

So, how do I experience joy in the midst of it all? Psalm 16:11 says that God will make known to me the path of life; that in His presence is fullness of joy. Can I rest in that? I will try and I am sure I will fall back into worrying.

But I can climb right back into His presence, knowing that He will make the correct path known to me.

Do you think joy and happiness are the same thing?

  1. Moving is just so stressful…do not let it take the “Joy” from you…To me “Joy” and “Happiness” are similar, but I feel that my “joy” comes from deep within…things and events can make you happy, but the joy that lies within you keeps your soul “happy”….Beautiful wreaths Sheila…Have a great weekend!

  2. Moving is the most stressful thing, I think it’s worse than having a baby just keep praying a buyer will come and it will be all done. About 10 years ago I was going through something that was the most stressful time in my life and my Dad told me his favourite bible passage in stress was “and it came to pass” be cause it does eventually. Good luck.

As for joy and happiness I think they’re a little different, my kids are my joy but they don’t always make me happy ;)

  3. Sheila, this is a lovely post! To me, joy is a deeper feeling than happiness. It’s hard to explain though. I love Mel’s example. I always think about the Bible verse that says, “weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning”. I hope this will be a wonderful move! I know it’s stressful though. Sending hugs and prayers your way!

  4. Well said, Sheila. My belief is that happiness is pretty much based on circumstances, since our emotions can be all over the place. Joy is not based on feelings; it is more about the foundation of our beliefs. If there is an active spiritual connection, there will always be joy in life.

I remember you once said that moving was an adventure and you rather enjoy the challenge. Still feel that way?
Sorry to see you leave the area. Just goes to show once again that we shouldn’t procrastinate on spending time with friends.
