Round French Graphic Wall Art

Wow, has the weather turned hot here- 89 degrees today! I’m having a terrible time fighting ants in our breakfast area. I’ve put out terro for weeks- the ants apparently think it’s candy, because hundreds show up for the feast, day after day. I’ve sprayed with ant killer, inside and out. That slows them down for a day. Ugh! I bought some diatomaceous earth today, will try that next. Why am I telling you this? I have no idea, except to vent my frustration. Hope you don’t mind. And if you have any suggestions, let me know! Smile with tongue out

Anyway, let’s think about something else- a “plan A didn’t work, so on to plan B” project. Remember the table I bought in order to scavenge the granite top for my bistro table? Well, I still had the base of that table left over, so when I came across this unfinished round table top at one of the home improvement stores, I thought it might work. It didn’t. Too small. It was only $5, so it was worth trying without first running back home to measure.

Sooo, now what should I do with it? I decided to create some French graphic wall art. I first whitewashed it by dipping my paintbrush in water, then white paint, and brushing it over the whole thing. Back and forth, water-paint, until it was covered. This took a couple of coats. I wasn’t crazy about the look, so I added a very light coat of brown glaze. Better! Sorry, I have no pictures of the process- it was one of those just-get-it-done days.

Next, I transferred a French grain sack graphic from The Graphics Fairy. A couple of coats of clear spray varnish, hangers on the back, and it is now in my booth, along with the purple toile bulletin board and the butterfly shutter.

Still have that table base left over. Hmmm.

I think it is the time of the year because me and my friend also are battling the ant situation. Your project came out nice, I am always trying something new and enjoy other people’s ideas as well.
