Spring Watering Can Arrangement

Hello, everyone! We spent the weekend in Florida- ah, such nice weather. Home to rain, rain, rain. I was hoping to add a little spring-time cheer to the front door with this watering can arrangement. Unfortunately, I didn’t account for the fact that the back of the can isn’t flat. Duh. So, it sits on our entry table instead.

I’ve had this watering can for years, using it as a… yep, watering can. But, it sprang a leak or five. Richard tried soldering one seam, but it still leaked, and there were other areas that gushed water as well. The discoloration around the soldered area was caused by the blowtorch.

I love the copper patina and don’t want to get rid of the can. For some reason, the top section of the can isn’t copper, and has rusted. Not loving that look, but haven’t decided what to do about it yet.

The solder is rather glaringly obvious, so I covered it with a blend of burnt umber and burnt sienna paint. To match the patina around the sprinkler head, I dabbed on a bit of bayberry paint mixed with just a touch of seafoam. Matches pretty well, don’t you think?

I’m a terrible flower arranger, so basically I just stuff a bunch of stems together and hope they work. If my container is stuffed pretty full, I don’t have to artfully arrange anything.

I reused things I already had, except for the dogwood stems, which were half off at Michael’s.

Our entry table has a touch of spring with this watering can arrangement, but it’s back to the drawing board for the front door.

Remember last year’s door décor? I still have the scroll thingy on there, but would like to add something new to it. Any suggestions?

Doodles,

SheilaG
