Well, the troublesome table is finished. Definitely finished this time. Yes, it is. If I say it enough…
So, remember the table that gave me refinishing nightmares? To refresh your memory, here’s the before:
And after much hair pulling and whining, with much relief, I presented this:
And they lived happily ever after- eh, not so much. This is from the second installment of the table refinishing nightmare:
Now you’re all caught up and on the edge of your seats wondering what happens next, right? I wouldn’t want to disappoint, so here goes.
Unfortunately, all of that finish didn’t peel up as easily as those first bits. So, back to stripping and sanding, lots more sanding.
Here are the products I used this go round:
A quick recap of the steps I used:
- After sanding, I brushed on a coat of sanding sealer- if I had done this the first time, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
- Ligthly sanded, then brushed on 3 coats of General Finishes Milk Paint in Outback Brown.
- Brushed on one coat of General Finishes High Performance Water Based Top Coat in Satin.
- Brushed on then wiped off GF Glaze Effects in Pitch Black. NOTE: This glaze is really grabby, so I ended up creating a sort of wood grain effect, a happy accident.
- Brushed on 3 coats of GF Top Coat.
I love the GF products- the milk paint goes on really smoothly. Their top coat is amazing- very smooth application using a sponge brush, and the really interesting thing is that I didn’t get any of the dust bits that you usually need to sand away. None. Ok, ready to see the FINAL final reveal?
See the streaky kind of wood grain effect from the glaze?
And my table refinishing nightmare is over. I know, I didn’t stage it this time. I’m tired of this table. And just tired.
